3 Reasons to Wash Your Produce

What do you do when you bring your produce home from the store? I know what I used to do. I would take it out of the shopping bag and put it straight into the refrigerator. When I went to use it, I would decide whether to rinse it off or use as is. Probably not the best choices.

When we eat unwashed produce, we’re taking our chances. It’s not just the dirt that can be a problem (who wants to eat dirt?), but the other things that hang on like bacteria, parasites, pesticides, and fertilizers.

So, let’s look at the 3 reasons to clean your produce as soon as you get it home.

#1 – Your produce will last longer.

Especially fruits like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries. These are delicate fruits and if they are fresh, can last over two weeks if cleaned and kept dry in the refrigerator. I rarely throw away berries that are lifeless and moldy anymore.

#2 – Your produce will be safer to eat.

Contaminates you cannot see can cling to fruits and vegetables. These can lead to foodborne illnesses, which for some can be severe. Taking a few minutes to clean your produce can significantly reduce your risk. Even the ones you peel, like bananas, melon, and russet potatoes. Those contaminates can find their way to the parts you eat.

#3 – Your produce will be true-to-taste and look beautiful.

OK, maybe you don’t care how your fruits and veggies look, but I can tell you that mine look and feel clean: shiny, smooth, squeaky clean as they say. And they taste amazing.

Say “goodbye” to unwanted residue, dirt, chemicals and microbes by giving your produce a thorough cleaning with Fresh Produce Wash. It is USDA certified 99% biobased content – from plants and other renewable sources, and it leave no aftertaste, odor or film on your food. It’s easy to use, helps extend the shelf life of fruits and veggies, and the container is recyclable and made from 25% OceanBound Plastic.

Here is a short video of it in action.

Here are a few additional items that can help too!

Dish Cloths – these are not your typical dish cloths. In addition to cleaning, they are great for straining delicate fruits and berries.

Kitchen Towels – highly absorbent, great for drying.

Counter Cloths – these are the size of a paper towel sheet. Fold one at the bottom of your container to absorb excess moisture. Use it over and over again.

Norwex?? …Nor…What???

That was me several years ago. My neighbor hosted a demo at her home. I was traveling, so I couldn’t make it. Phew… dodged that bullet! I had never heard of Norwex and had no interest in learning about it.

Now fast forward to the summer of 2020…
